De Sus was founded by a community of friends, Andrei, Alex, Nicu and George, who share the passion of living in the mountains: guides, sportsmen, adventurers, amateur or professional researchers, all aiming to know better and also to share the know-how of living freely in Romania’s mountains with anyone else.

Our main focus is on rock climbing and off piste skiing but we also bike our way around and always search for new passages by “random trekking” and scrambling in this such familiar yet immensily wild landscape that our Carpathians prove to be.

Also, one of the highlights of exploring our mountains is the everpresent encounters we make on the way, be it wildlife and its ubiquitos traces, or the vigorous presence of the people of the mountains in their natural home.

We can be your guides on organised endeavours, provide you with roadbooks, or make suggestions for selfguided tours of our country.

Our services are entirely custom made, so feel free to contact us.

Alexandru Olteanu

Born in Bicaz, Neamt County on the 15th of June 2000, currently living in Brasov, Transylvania.

Graduated highschool in 2019, member of AGMR (Association of Mountain Guides of Romania) since April 2022 and ski instructor since December 2021. Currently preparing to go to the Faculty of Medicine at Bucharest Unversity.

His strongest passions are climbing and skiing and he enjoys them because they make him feel healthy. As these sports are  complex outdoors activities, involving both physical and mental strength, they keep him grounded and balanced.

His involvement in extreme sports since childhood made him start skiing thinking that it is the best replacement for inline skating during winter. He learned how to ski and  progress came fast considering his mindset to push his limits. Later he discovered the poetic part in ski touring in which making his own path and doing turns in fresh powder snow is a way for him to unwind.

The desire to share the joy of skiing and climbing in a safe environment made him join AGMR (Mountain Guides Association of Romania). Thanks to his drive and involvement he became an instructor for the beginner mountain guides before his graduation. This made him realise how important it is to maintain strong communication skills amongst a team when being a leader and to stay calm and aware in dangerous situations.

Andrei Nuțu-Manea

Born in Piatra-Neamt on the 5th of October 1979, in the Eastern Carpathians of Romania.

Andrei was a member of Neamt County Mountain Rescue Team between 1996 and 2000.
National Tourist Guide since 2002, he graduated from the Law School at Bucharest University in 2003.

He has been a sport climbing coach since 2008 and a Mountain Guide since 2014.
Andrei’s biggest interest lies in developing rock climbing first ascents, an activity to which he is profoundly dedicated since the end of 1990’s.

The second most important for him comes the offpiste skiing, a passion that has constantly grown in the last ten years, especially since teaming with and learning a lot from Nicolae Durnac, also part of De Sus.

Trekking and MTB are filling the rest of  the picture, while wandering through uncharted forest, peaks and valleys, quite often in search of mushrooms, is a constant thread in his everyday life.
